Stitch Fix Review – March 2016
On Saturday, my fifth Stitch Fix arrived at my apartment! Stitch Fix (<–referral link!) is a personal styling service that is ideal for someone like me who hates shopping, never tries anything out of my comfort zone, and has no idea how to style the pieces I actually own! It’s also great if you don’t have time to shop, are looking for specific items each season, or just love new clothing in general!
When you sign up, you take an in-depth survey about your clothing sizes, style, and pricing preferences. After reviewing this information, your personal stylist will send you 5 items to try. The fee for this service is $20, which includes free shipping and free returns. If you keep any of the items they send you, you get to deduct the $20 fee from the total (if you keep all five items, you also get a 25% discount!)
This month I asked my stylist to stay away from pants and accessories, so I was hoping to get skirts, dresses, or blouses/sweaters that were work-appropriate. As a general note, make sure to keep an eye on your Pinterest board and update it at least once a season to give your stylist even more ideas of what you’d like to see in your box. I’d also recommend following StitchFix on Pinterest so you can re-pin any clothing they feature. It just might show up in your box!
When you receive your box, you have three days to decide what items you want to keep and what items you want to return. There is a “Checkout” option in your online account to let them know what you’re keeping (and paying for) and provide feedback on all the clothes. This is another great opportunity to tell your stylist about your likes/dislikes. Your credit card is only charged for the items you keep (minus the $20 styling fee!). A USPS bag (for the free shipping) is provided in the box to return the other items. I also discovered that USPS will pick up packages from your doorstep, so I didn’t even have to make a trip to the post office!
Check out what I received in my fifth box:
Pixley Willow Draped Cardigan ($78) – I’ve seen this type of drape-y sweater before but probably never would have tried one on myself. Luckily that’s exactly where Stitch Fix comes in. It’s not quite as long as I’d like in the back, but it’s extremely comfortable and cuter than I expected! Right now I’m leaning towards keeping it. KEEP
41Hawthorn Melony Shirt Dress ($78) – Despite liking the idea of shirt dresses in general, I was skeptical when I pulled this from the box. I’m used to seeing these dresses made from a stiffer material, but this one was more flow-y (I wish I actually knew something about clothes and could use correct terms for the materials haha). It wasn’t bad, but not quite my style and not at the right price point. RETURN
Sumnac Button Down Top ($88) – If only this shirt wasn’t ridiculously expensive, I would definitely keep it. It’s a well made, classic button down, but I still can’t justify paying that much for a shirt. Maybe I’ll get over that someday? RETURN
Market & Spruce Tealy Raw Seam Knit Top ($54) – The color of this shirt is bright and cheery, but I didn’t like the raw seams running down the front. The just make the shirt look like it’s turned inside out. It’s also a bit expensive for a regular T-shirt. RETURN
Pixley Bardy Cable Knit Sweater ($74) – This sweater was so cozy and warm. Unfortunately, I hated the fit around the waist. The fabric hangs straight down and just makes me look ridiculously boxy. RETURN
Once again I wasn’t terribly impressed with the selections in this box. I’ll probably give it one or two more chances, but after that switch to regular online shopping! I’ve had lots of luck lately with NY & Company and White Plum 🙂

The orange shirt looks great on you!
Thank you! I wish it was just a bit cheaper…
