Reading RoundUp #49

Although January is no one’s favorite month, I have lots of books I’m excited to read! I’m starting off this year buddy reading one of them and joining an online book club for another. I can’t wait to discuss both of them with my fellow book lovers. Check out Jana Says and Modern Mrs Darcy’s Quick Lit to see what other bloggers are reading!

This week’s Reading Roundup!

Work Book (for lunch time reading):

The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton – This is the Pingel Sisters’ January book club selection. Since I have a whole month to read it, I thought it’d be ideal to keep at work. From Amazon, this is “an unforgettable journey through generations and across continents as two women try to uncover their family’s secret past.”

House Books:

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black – I’m doing my first buddy read with this book on Twitter! A few gals started a group chat and we set date and chapter goals so we can discuss as we go along. So far this reminds me a bit of A Court of Mist and Fury – a young adult fantasy set in Faerie world.

The Printed Letter Bookshop by Katherine Reay – This one doesn’t come out until May, so I was thrilled to get approved for an eARC on Netgalley. I loved the behind the scenes insight into keeping a bookshop afloat as well as the personalities of the three main women.

Audiobooks (listening on Scribd):

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens – Reese Witherspoon adores this book and just announced she’s planning to turn it into a movie. I’m only a few chapters in, but the writing is captivating. Stories set in the South also have a special appeal, so I think I’m going to quite enjoy this one.

From Around the Web:

Hope by the Book Magazine – Have you heard of this magazine exclusively for readers?? It comes out with four issues a year and I’m considering subscribing...

Classic Literature as Fortune Cookies – Some of these are spot on!

Are the Amazon Prime benefits at Whole Foods worthwhile? I never go to Whole Foods but the deals sound so good I keep considering it.

  1. I have Where the Crawdads Sing on hold at the library. I’m generally not a fan of celebrity book things but Reese does do a good job with turning books into movies (and TV) so I’ll let it slide.

    1. I get the same way with celebrity book clubs. So far this one is living up to the expectations thankfully!

  2. hope you like the forgotten garden! i really enjoyed it a couple years ago. i am very curious about where the crawdads sing, i’ve heard good things.

    1. I do sometimes miss my book when I want to read at home, but it’s one thing to get me more excited about work the next day!
