To Be Read List for January 2020
Happy New Year readers!! Apologies for not having this post ready to go on the 1st. I think everyone takes a break during the holidays, so it was refreshing to step back from my computer a bit. We’ll be back to the regular TBR linkup schedule next month. Hopefully one of your bookish resolutions is finding lots of time to read! My peak reading times are right before bed and while Connor’s napping, so I’m hoping to continue that trend.

To Be Read List for January 2020:
The Glass Hotel by Emily St John Mandel
I just missed out on a physical ARC of this book, but I’m hoping to read the kindle version this month. Emily’s last novel, Station Eleven, was beloved by basically everyone. I thought it was good, not great, so I’m curious about her latest. It involves Ponzi schemes, missing people, scandals, and lots more so I have no idea really what to expect…
The Martian by Andy Weir
This is my first reread of 2020! I didn’t do nearly enough of that in 2019, so I’m looking forward to returning to lots more favorites from the past this year. The Audible daily deal was a rerecording of The Martian, with Will Wheaton narrating. That’s a combo I can’t resist! I absolutely loved the sarcasm and clever fight for survival in the book. So, I think listening to it on audio will be even better. Since the book is basically composed of vlog entries, it lends itself perfectly to this format.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
I honestly have no idea what this book is about, but I’m trying to leave it that way. I haven’t read Erin Morgenstern’s other smash hit, The Night Circus, so I’m not sure if I’ll like her writing style but I’m excited to give it a try. My library hold for The Starless Sea just came in, so I’m going to pick it up this weekend! All I know is that she writes mystical magical fantasy books and people love them haha.

Excited about the new Emily St John Mandel book too! And I also know next to nothing about this new Erin Morgenstern except that people love it. I’m actually going to have to learn more about it if I’m ever going to pick it up myself, because when “fantasy” enters into any brief description, I usually assume it’s probably not for me… so we’ll see.
Happy reading this month! 🙂
