Mini Book Reviews – February 2026

Physical Books:

astral

The Astral Library by Kate Quinn

This was one of my Most Anticipated Reads of 2026 and it absolutely delivered! If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping inside the pages of your favorite novels (which let’s be honest is probably all of us), you’re going to want to read this book!

The Astral Library is a magical haven for those needing shelter and gives its patrons the ability to live inside the book of their choosing. When Alix finds herself invited in, she arrives just as this very place and the Librarian who keeps it running are being threatened. Together, they jump through the pages of novels, seeking to protect the patrons inside and discover how to fend off the attack. I love the magical realism of this story and the familiar locations and characters from classic novels that I’ve read. 4.5 Stars | Buy Deluxe Edition From Amazon

Good Spirits by B.K. Borison

An antique shop owner’s holiday season is upended when she’s visited by an unexpected ghost. That specter is Nolan, the actual Ghost of Christmas Past, whose mission is to guide Harriet through pivotal moments in her life. Nolan is used to these assignments and just tries to get through them as quickly as possible, but he finds himself drawn to Harriet. As the two begin to explore Harriet’s history together, they uncover deeper connections between them, and the lines between duty and desire start to blur.

I really wanted to love this since I adored B.K. Borison’s last romance series, but I was pretty bored through most of it. I wasn’t feeling any chemistry between Harriet and Nolan and the story never captivated me.  3 Stars | Buy From Amazon

anatomy

Anatomy Of An Alibi by Ashley Elston

Ashley’s 2024 thriller was one of my favorite reads of that year and while this one didn’t quite live up that five star thriller, this is still a must read! A twisted tale involving two women trying to uncover a husband’s secrets. Except when the husband ends up dead, only one has a solid alibi.

Camille believes her hotshot lawyer husband is hiding some dirty secrets, so she comes up with a plan to uncover them. Aubrey also has a reason to want to bring Ben to justice, so she agrees to pose as Camille for 12 hours while Camille digs into Ben’s secrets. Except Ben ends up dead and they’re now both suspects…

This is more of a classic murder mystery as everyone involved tries to uncover who really killed Ben and why. The storytelling is phenomenal and I loved jumping back and forth between all the characters’ perspectives.  | 4.5 Stars | Buy From Amazon

these summer storms

These Summer Storms by Sarah MacLean

This was my first Sarah MacLean book, which is a bit unusual since she’s written mostly historical romance. I was intrigued by this family drama / romance. The story follows a group of siblings who are heirs to their father’s fortune (who’s basically a fictional Steve Jobs). Except after his sudden death, their inheritance isn’t as simple as signing some papers. Each sibling and their mother are given specific tasks they must accomplish. The rules are simple – either everyone completes their task or NO ONE inherits the money.

This had all the usual family drama that comes with complicated sibling rivalries but the added intrigue of fame. I liked how our main character was the black sheep of the family who had forged her own path. Ultimately though, this felt a little too long with not enough going on. If you like more literary fiction type drama stories though, you’ll probably love it! | 3.5 Stars | Buy From Amazon

catch her

Catch Her If You Can by Tessa Bailey

This is the latest sports romance from Tessa Bailey and it’s still better than a lot of other sports romances I read but was probably my least favorite of the series so far. It was missing some of the fun banter, and felt a little more serious.

Madden has been in love with Eve since they were young, but she’s never shown any interest in him beyond friendship. Eve has been in love with Madden for just as long, but her friend Skylar always had a crush on him so Eve wouldn’t let herself potentially get in their way.

Now, Madden’s a professional catcher and Eve is unexpectedly given temporary custody of her niece and nephew. She needs stability and health insurance and he wants to protect her. A fake marriage gives Eve what she needs, but she’s worried her ownership of a burlesque club will ruin his image. There are big things at stake with these two, which is what sets a bit more of a serious tone. I adored how seriously they took their feelings though and how much they were willing to sacrifice to support each other! 4 Stars | Buy From Amazon
