Mechanicsburg Wine Walk
Last Saturday, as a combination Mother’s Day / Birthday event, my mom, Sam, and I spent the afternoon participating in Mechanicsburg, PA’s annual Wine Walk. Mechanicsburg is a small town in central PA close to where I grew up. Our church is located there, so I’ve driven through it many many times, but had never visited the cute shops and boutiques downtown. Each year, the town hosts a wine walk to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the area. We paid $12 for a wine glass, which served as our ticket. Most of the shops and businesses offered wine samples (and some sangria!) as well as a few snacks to nibble.
I’m impressed with the number of businesses that participate each year! Even places that didn’t sell anything opened their doors to welcome the community. Much to my mother’s dismay, Sam and I even had a grand time in the funeral home marveling at the architecture and picking out our future urns 🙂 I mean, they had one shaped like books!! How could you not get excited about that?? Plus, they easily had the best sangria and brownies!
Brittle Bark might have been my favorite stop of the day. Each visitor received a choice of chocolate truffle to sample. My Belgian chocolate truffle was divine! They were testing out new flavors and encouraged customers to provide feedback. Great marketing idea!
I also loved the rustic home décor shop, Generations, that’s located just off Main St near the Freight Station Museum. It’s a Fixer Upper lover’s dream! Full of wooden accent pieces, quaint signs, and cute gift ideas, it’s worth a look.
For antique shoppers, Vintage, etc is a great place to browse. The main floor has the bulk of the items, including an impressive selection of cookbooks. Upstairs you can find some Christmas decorations and old fashion toys.
The three of us had a blast strolling through town and spending the afternoon together. A perfect Mother’s Day celebration. Great idea, Mom!
A lovely town and a great way to spend time with your mom (and sister?).
Thanks for the post and photos. Love the free library!
Haha just realized I never mentioned Sam is my brother’s girlfriend. She’s basically part of the family though 🙂 I was blown away by that free library. Such an amazing design.
I grew up near there, too (Hershey) but never went to Mechanicsburg unless it was for school sports! We used to do the York wine trail deal in the Fall and loved it! I think I still have an “Uncork York” wine glass in my cabinet!
It’s always exciting to find someone else from Central PA!
It’s a sign of a problem that I thought “Mechanicsburg! That’s where my ThredUp packages come from!”
