What I’m Reading – 7/29/19

When this post goes live, I’ll be sitting on the beach! We’re taking Connor on his first beach vacation, although his time in the sand will be quite limited. At four months old, he can’t go out in the sun so we’re bringing a little tent and hoping to just take him for an hour or so in the morning. Luckily, my in-laws and extended family are coming with us so he’ll have lots of babysitters! That means extra reading time for Mom 🙂

I’m joining up with The Book Date to share what I’m reading this week!

Finished Reading:

My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan

Ella is an American Rhodes scholar with political aspirations. When she heads to Oxford for a year to study literature, she expects to have her once-in-a-lifetime experience and then come back to her real life. Naturally, these plans change when she falls for the handsome student teacher…

I was expecting a super light, fun romance but this had more depth and hard choices. The supporting characters are a bit stereotypical, but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment. The ending in particular was perfect!

Currently Reading:

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes

After winning this in a bookstagram giveaway, I started this at work last week but didn’t get a chance to finish it. I was seriously debating bringing it home because I need to know how it all ends! It’s a sweet story about a widow who takes in a former baseball player as a tenant. I’m already recommending it to friends because I can’t stop smiling while reading it.

Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan

Scribd is my go-to source for audiobooks since their selection is amazing and it’s only $9/month. This book is a follow-up to The Little Beach Street Bakery and I’m thrilled to get back in touch with those characters.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

The movie is a cult classic, but the book is just as funny and adventurous! I’m reading an anniversary edition with gorgeous illustrations that make the experience even more enjoyable. I love coming across lines in the book that I recognize from the movie.

  1. We took our granddaughter to the beach for the first time last month. She’s 1 year old, so a little easier than an infant. But hope you’re having a wonderful time and getting in some good reading time! I’ve like to read My Oxford Year at some point!

    1. Oh that would be such a fun age! I’m sure next year if we go it will be a whole lot different 🙂

  2. Nice looking books. I read The Princess Bride years ago but don’t think I’ve seen the movie. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
