Reading RoundUp #20

Merry Christmas everyone!! Hopefully you all are enjoying this time of year and are not too stressed about finding last minute presents. However, if you are, check out my gift guide! We’ve spent the past two weekends fixing up our new house. I never expected to enjoy fixer upper projects as much as I do. It’s extremely satisfying to see a room transform as a result of your own work! Stay tuned, I’ll post more details soon. For now, on to the roundup.

This week’s Reading Roundup!

Work Book (for lunch time reading):

The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks – After the disappointment of Mischling, I went to the library in search of a more lighthearted easy read. Nicholas Sparks to the rescue! A young widow in a small town tries to decide between two men in her life. However, she becomes embroiled in a nightmare of jealousy and deception! Intriguing!

Apartment Books:

Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness – This novel is the second in the All Souls Trilogy. The first book, A Discovery of Witches, introduces vampires and witches living in modern times. This is a continuation of their story after they’ve time traveled to Elizabethan England. It definitely feels like a more grown up fantasy book and deals with the politics and history of these creatures.

Lord of the Flies by William Golding – Somehow I missed out on reading this classic about a group of boys stranded on an island. I didn’t know what to expect and was surprised to find the plot so cruel and savage! It’s kind of scary reading about what can happen when fear and power take hold.

Kindle Books:

The Siren by Kiera Cass – Cass is most well known for her young adult series, The Selection (which I of course already read). Her books are fun and easy to read. When I found this one available on my library’s Overdrive website, I decided to give it a try. It tells the story of modern day sirens, held captive for 100 years while they lure humans to death with their voices. But of course, they’re just like regular teenage girls and there’s a love story!

From Around the Web:

Winter Wedding Photos – Wedding photos from this week, including snow and a Christmas tree!

Children’s Books from the 90’s – I’m throwing a bit of nostalgia your way. I love looking back over books that I read as a kid!

What’s New at Disney in 2017 Although I don’t have a trip planned right now, who’s to say it couldn’t happen…

*Disclosure – I earn a small commission if you purchase any items through the links above. Thanks for supporting my reading habit!
