2017 Book to Movie Adaptations
As usual, Hollywood is turning to books for movie ideas in 2017. I can’t say I’m complaining because it’s a way for me to discover new books. I always enjoy watching the movie after reading and comparing the two as well. Here’s a list of a few book adaptations I want to see this year!
Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly – Nominated for Best Picture for the 2017 Oscars. This movie follows the team of African-American women who provided the data NASA needed for their first successful space missions. Although the book is usually better, in this case the movie looks phenomenal! Movie Release Date: In Theaters Now
The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman – When I first saw this trailer, I didn’t realize it was based on a book. Then I found out it’s also based on a true story! This novel tells the tale of the keepers of the Warsaw Zoo and how they used their empty cages to save hundreds of people from the Nazis. Movie Release Date: March 31, 2017
The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King – Since I’ve read The Gunslinger (the first book in the series), I’m curious to see how this is being turned into a movie. Plus, after watching The Wire I’m a huge fan of Idris Elba and willing to see pretty much anything with him in it. Movie Release Date: July 28, 2017
My Cousin Rachel by Daphne duMaurier – I know nothing about this book, but I’m reading duMaurier’s Rebecca right now and can’t get enough of it. She is a beautiful storyteller. So, I’m planning to get my hands on this one before the movie comes out. Quick summary – a man plots revenge against his cousin who might be a murderer. Movie Release Date: July 14, 2017
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline – This is the one I’m anticipating the most and it finally has a release date! Unfortunately it’s not until 2018. Do yourself a favor and go read the book while you have time. This story about a quest for a hidden Easter Egg inside a virtual reality world is littered with 80’s pop culture references and full of adventure. Movie Release Date: March 30, 2018
Have you read any of these books yet? Are there other book to movie adaptations that you’re looking forward to seeing?
