What I’m Loving Lately – August 2017
It’s my birthday month!! We’ve had gorgeous weather here lately which is actually making me look forward to fall. August was a decently full month for us, so check out my recap below! As usual, I’m also linking up with Leigh Kramer.
TV Shows
30 Rock – I’ve seen a few episodes here and there, but decided to start watching from the beginning. Kenneth is everyone’s favorite character…obviously, right?
Game of Thrones – Not only are we watching the new season as it airs, we also started rewatching Season 1! It’s a bit frustrating to compare the two since the show was incredible back then. The plot was driven purely by the characters and their decisions and full of political positioning and ruthless actions. Now it panders to the fan favorites and focuses on big battles and CGI, even if the story doesn’t make sense.
Movies
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince– I’m rolling through the HP series and only have about one hundred pages left in the final book at this point. We watched two movies in August and I’m hoping we can watch the final two next month.
Rush Hour 2 – Since we bought the trilogy on sale during Prime Day, we continued on and watched Rush Hour 2 this month. It’s funny, but I still prefer the original.

Events/Activities
Dungeons and Dragons – After the resounding success during our first seven hour D&D marathon, we spent another weekend playing the game in August. It’s getting more exciting as our characters level up and obtain new magic and skills.
Vermont – Mid month we took a long weekend trip to Montpelier and Burlington. Check out my full trip report here! Highlights included all the food – Ben & Jerrys, Cabot Cheese, and Lake Champlain Chocolates.
The Band Perry – I won free tickets to see The Band Perry at Musikfest from my work. We sat 7 rows from the stage!! I’m a huge fan of their first two albums, so I’m massively disappointed that they’re transitioning from country to pop. Although they played some of their hits, the show reflected this new direction…and not in a good way.
Tennis – I help run the tennis league at my job and we finally got into full swing in August. It’s great exercise and a perfect excuse to spend a few hours outside. Looking forward to watching the US Open this year as well! Way to go Rafa grabbing the #1 spot!
What I’m Loving
Boxed – American Express is offering a $25 off $75 discount at Boxed.com, so I tried it out for the first time this month. After combining that offer with a coupon code for first time users, I got $90 of bulk groceries for $50. Score! I was impressed with their selection and prices (and the free samples included in every shipment). If you want to try it, you can get $15 off your first order of $60 or more with my referral link.
Scribd – One of those deal websites (I think Groupon or Living Social) offered a free three month trial to this service. Scribd is essentially a subscription service website that gives you 3 ebook credits and 1 audiobook credit to use each month. So far, I like that they have a wider selection than my library’s Overdrive website, but it’s probably not something I’d pay $10 each month to use.
First Lines of Literature Mug – I bought this using our Amazon registry discount a few months ago. Now it’s my go-to tea mug when I’m working from home.
Ticket To Ride – We received this board game as a wedding gift and played it for the first time a few days ago. It’s fairly simple to learn and the game moves quickly. I won the first time so naturally I’m hoping we play this one lots more in the future : )
What were you loving in August?

Absolutely yes to Ben and Jerry’s ice cream! My favorite date nights include a pint of BJ’s, two spoons, and a great movie with my husband.
Happy birthday month! Mine is in March and I always wished I had a summer birthday. I am rereading the Harry Potter books too (just finished Book 3, following along with the Harry Pottwr and the Sacred Text podcast). I never got into the movies though and haven’t seen past the 5th one.
Thank you! What is this podcast you mentioned? Do they discuss each book or is it just about random Harry Potter topics?
I love Ticket to Ride! I spend way too much time playing it on my phone. And I definitely also find that I have a more positive impression of a game if I win the first time I play.
You can play it on your phone?? That’s news to me. I’ll have to check it out!
Is this your first time watching/reading Harry Potter? What a treat!
Actually it’s probably my fifth or sixth time for both : ) I just can’t help coming back to them again and again!
