Reading RoundUp #32
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day celebrating with food, family, and friends. We’re out doing our leisurely Black Friday shopping today, but if you need a break from the hustle and bustle, take a look at my current roundup of books.
This week’s Reading Roundup!
Work Book (for lunch time reading):
The Big Short by Michael Lewis – Lewis has an incredible ability to take complex topics and break them down in easy to understand language. I actually watched The Big Short movie first (highly recommend) and am enjoying the book just as much.
House Books:
The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss – This is my second time through the Kingkiller series and it’s just phenomenal. I’m still anxiously waiting the release of the third book, but for now I’ll keep rereading the first two.
Rick Steve’s Ireland Travel Guide – My library came through big time after I discovered they didn’t have any Ireland travel guides! They hunted down a recent version from another local library for me. I usually don’t mind researching trips online, but there’s just so much information packed in these books. It’s hard to resist!
Kindle Books:
Shadows Across Dakota by Kristine Bone – Kris kindly offered me a free copy of her book to read, which is such a delightful blogging bonus. I love giving new authors a chance. Her story is Christian historical fiction set in the Dakota territory in the late 1800’s. Check it out if you’re interested in American history or Christian fiction.
From Around the Web:
Scholastic Book Fair Nostalgia – I remember salivating over the catalogs we received before the event. Thanks to High Shelf Esteem for discovering this article!
Thanksgiving Leftover Ideas – Food Network’s collection of 45 recipes to use up those leftovers.
Peanut Butter Comparison Test – Only for the most devoted peanut butter fans. Jif is the only brand for me. What’s your favorite?
*Disclosure – I earn a small commission if you purchase any items through the links above. Thanks for supporting my reading habit!
I was very excited to see your comments on The Wise Man’s Fear. I’m laid up in the hospital currently, and a friend brought both books in the Kingkiller series for me to enjoy while I’m bedridden. Any idea when the third book comes our?
I haven’t heard anything about the release date of the third book (and it’s killing me!!) Hope you’re enjoying the books and out of the hospital soon!
I love a good library sale!
I actually have The Big Short (movie) in my queue and didn’t realize or remember that it was a book … I’ll be on the lookout for it!
I’m going to request the Big Short again, it came when I had other piles of books and I couldn’t get to it on time. Thanks for the reminder!
The Big Short was a great movie but I just could not get into the book.
You picked up some good books in the library haul sale. I haven’t seen or read The Big Short. Not sure it’s my kind of book. I agree travel books come in handy when planning a trip!
I loved the movie The Big Short and kept saying I needed to read the book because there was so much information presented so quickly. I need to get to it already!
I’m planning to go back and rewatch the movie now. It took a while to get through the book but it’s worth it.
