2018 Book to Movie Adaptations

I realized this post is a tradition for me each year in January or February! I always look forward to new book to movie adaptations, even knowing they usually don’t live up to the book. Here’s a list of a few book adaptations coming up this year!

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle – Honestly the trailers for this one don’t have me super excited to see it in theaters. This seems like a good candidate to Redbox or wait until it hits Netflix  Movie Release Date: March 9, 2018

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline – It’s finally happening!! I’ve been waiting two years for this one since it was first announced. The trailers are awesome and full of action. This story about a quest for a hidden Easter Egg inside a virtual reality world is littered with 80’s pop culture references and full of adventure. Movie Release Date: March 30, 2018

Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple – I haven’t read this one yet, but it’s received a lot of buzz over the years. 15 year old Bee dives into a bunch of emails, documents, and correspondence to try and find her mom after she disappears. Movie Release Date: May 11, 2018

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows –  Oh man oh man I’m so thrilled to see this movie! The book is an all time favorite of mine, so I’m eager to see it come to life. Movie Release Date: July 14, 2017

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken – A new to me dystopian novel. Most of America’s children are killed by a mysterious disease. The survivors awake with new abilities and are sent to government “rehabilitation” camps. Ruby manages to escape, but faces new challenges outside. Movie Release Date: September 14, 2018

The Grinch by Dr Seuss – I don’t see any reason for another remake of this story, but Benedict Cumberbatch is the voice of the Grinch. That alone is enough to make me want to see it : ) Movie Release Date: November 9, 2018

Have you read any of these books yet? Are there other book to movie adaptations that you’re looking forward to seeing?

  1. I love this! I always try to read the books before the movies are released and the first 4 were already on my TBR! I’m actually reading Where’d You Go, Bernadette? right now! Looks like I know what I’ll be reading for the next few months haha. Thanks so much for sharing!
